Continuing its drive against drug menace, SOG Jammu and District Police Jammu achieves a major success when it thwarted the plot of the drug smugglers of smuggling huge consignment of Poppy Straw from Kashmir to other parts of the country. They arrested two drug peddlers at Narwal and Bagh-e-Bahu and recovered huge quantity of poppy straw.

          On 10th October, 2019, a joint team of PP Narwal (led by IC PP Narwal, SI Khyatimaan Khajuria) and SOG Jammu (led by SI Arjun Magotra) While on routine checking, signalled the driver of the truck bearing registration no. JK05A 9105 to stop his truck few meters before the naka point but both the driver and co driver tried to escape from the spot. After a hot chase police managed to arrest the co driver of the vehicle but the driver of the truck managed to escape from the spot. The driver and co-driver of the truck were identified as Bashir Ahmed Khan S/o Mohd Farooq Khan R/o Baramulla and Mohd Ashraf lone s/o Abdul Jabar Lone R/o Uri Baramulla respectively. On checking, 707 kgs of poppy straw was recovered from the truck they were in.

In relation to this, FIR no.264/2019 U/S 8/15/29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at PS Bahufort, one of the accused namely Mohd Ashraf lone have been arrested and investigation has been initiated.

In another operation, SOG Jammu and sleuths of PS Bagh-e-Bahu intercepted one truck no. JK 05B-7138 which was found to be loaded with Gypsum but when it was searched thoroughly 32 bags weighing about 800 kilograms of Poppy straw was found concealed inside the gypsum material, which was immediately seized in the case and the accused person namely Sayeed Tasaduq Hussain s/o Jumma Shah r/o Boniyar, Baramulla was arrested. A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu. Further investigation is going on.
